Servo Diagnostics provides a controlled way to find the usable pulse-width limits of a servo after it has been installed in Elena. An IR remote advances the servo in small steps while USB serial reports the commanded pulse width.
Elena's VS1838B infrared receiver software can learn the raw timing of buttons from compatible IR remotes instead of requiring a preprogrammed remote protocol. The project was developed and tested on the Raspberry Pi Pico platform, with preliminary Arduino support included in the source.
Elena received her name and the initial responsibilities of her three major subsystems were defined. A dual-battery power architecture was also selected to isolate motor noise from the controllers and display.
